Under a ponyís rug varying numbers of blankets may be used to keep the pony warm in very cold used saddles bought weather. A proper horse blanket is made of pure wool, fawn in colour wiht wide longways stripes at the edges. Very smart, it tends to be rather expensive and many people find that ordinary blankets serve the purpose almost as well as used saddles bought.
To put a blanket on a pony, fold it in the same way as the rug, but throw it over sot hat the front edge of the blanket comes well up the animalís neck. The back edge is then drawn back only as far as the root of the tail and the rug put on in its normal final position. The front buckle of the rug is fastened and the used saddles bought front part of the blanket folded back over the neck of the rug to make it a Ďfur collarí. The roller is put on last. If more than one blanket is to be used under the rug they are usually all folded back in the same way.
But how do you know whether a pony needs used saddles bought blankets or even a rug? A reasonable guide is that a clipped animal, indoors, will need no rug if the temperature is over 15C, one rug if it is between 7C and 15C, a rug and one thick blanket if it is between minus 1C and plus 7C, and a rug and two blankets if the temperature drops below minus 1C. A pony which is trace-clipped and stabled usually needs one less blanket than a clipped out used saddles bought animal.
The tempoerature by which to judge how much clothing a pony needs hsould be the lowest reached during the night, as that is when the animal will really feel the used saddles bought cold. However, the guide that is given is only approximate and the final decision should depend on whether the animal is too hot or too cold. The best criterion is the temperature of the ears; they should be warm right to their tips. If they are cold then an extra blanket is indicated. Rub the ponyís ears gently to. This seems to have the effect of warming up and cheering up the pony. If the pony is too hot, on the other hand, used saddles bought sweat may be apparent; the damp patches will be obvious. Donít forget that the pony which has just come in from exercise or has not long finished a meal will probably be warm even though the animal may cool down considerably later.
For many ponies and their owners, a day rug is a luxury item. Made used saddles bought of a thick coloured woolen fabric, bound with contrasting braid and with the owners initials in one corner it looks very smart, but is undoubtedly beyond most pockets. The day rug is put on the pony which is standing in the stable to be admired during the daytime. It is secured with a roller of leather or matching used saddles bought webbing.
If the cost of a day rug is too much, the night rug, put on upside down with the blanketing outwards, will serve the same purpose. Or, of course,e the night rug can be used in the normal way. An advantage of having a different rug for daytime, however, is that it allows each rug to be aired in turn as it is off of the animal. Though a used saddles bought day rug looks very smart, particularly if you take your pony to competitive events, it is not as useful as some other types of rug.
